What's the hurry?
Reading time: As slow as you can :)

Now let’s dive in.
We’re living in the age of 2x speed. Our minds are always looking for something new, and we’re always rushing to arrive at a destination where other people seem happy, at least from afar.
Like anyone else, I aimed to reach this destination when I began my freelancing journey almost a decade ago. For me, it looked like working long hours to earn those extra bucks, compromising my sleep, giving myself backaches, all to buy myself some luxuries.
That everyday grind didn’t make me happy.
So I stopped chasing the portrayed perfect life. And started enjoying having a good-enough day, doing what feels like a calling, at a pace that works for me.
I noticed that when I did that, the rush disappeared. So did the stress of performing for others.
Because when I’m walking this path, there isn’t any pre-defined destination to arrive at. The pathway is open. The next step isn’t fully planned in my head. This gives me space to try new things, keep what works for me, do less of what doesn’t, and change direction when I need to.
To someone watching from the outside, this might look like I’m delaying things forever.
But I don’t feel that way.
When you’re doing something you genuinely feel called toward, you show up. Every day. You do the work. Not because someone’s watching or because there’s a deadline. You do it because you can’t not do it.
You don’t make excuses. You find solutions. You become unstoppable in your own quiet way. You take it as your daily practice towards developing a lifetime’s work.
And there’s something else I’ve noticed.
This way of living, with curiosity, with space, with room for what’s next, this is what we’re actually searching for when we scroll endlessly through social media. We’re looking for newness, for possibility, for that feeling that life is interesting.
But we’re looking in the wrong place.
It’s here. In the life you’re building at your own pace.
When I orient my days toward what I actually enjoy, I feel a soft pull toward each morning. There’s nothing to prove to anyone else. Just a lot to discover about myself every day.
I’ve learned that I enjoy working by myself rather than managing people and being responsible for their salaries. I’ve learned that I want to pursue multiple interests, but I love focusing on one thing at a time each day. I’ve learned that everything I choose to do has one thing at its core: freedom. The freedom to live more fully.
And isn’t that what life is about? Becoming more of yourself?
You always feel like you’ve arrived when you’re walking the path you chose to walk. Not someone else’s path. Yours.
None of this happened overnight. I didn’t wake up one day with it all figured out. I slowly arrived here by choosing to do less. By figuring out what “enough” looks like for me. By keeping my life small in some ways, so it could be big in the ways that matter to me.
Everything isn’t rosy every day.
But when I choose my struggles and consciously decide what’s worth the difficulty, I know I’ll find the strength to figure it out. Or I’ll find the courage to walk away from what no longer feels aligned.
Either way, it’s mine. The pace is mine. The path is mine. The destination, if there even is one, is mine. I am ok walking this path for a lifetime.
So what’s the hurry? Where are you trying to arrive?
