For the longest time, I believed I couldn’t learn yoga online. And because of that, “Yoga” sat on my vision board for two whole years.
My belief had this voice giving me all the reasons not to join an online yoga course:
🔸 How will I know if I’m doing it correctly without an offline teacher to correct my poses when these sessions are pre-recorded?
🔸 What if I do something wrong and hurt myself?
🔸 Starting my day with a screen? No way—I avoid screens for the first three hours after waking up!
And what did all these beliefs lead to? Me waiting. Waiting to start yoga someday — when I found the perfect instructor nearby.
That day never came.
So this year, I decided to do the exact opposite of what my belief told me.
I joined a 21-day online yoga class at the start of the year. And guess what? None of my beliefs related to learning yoga online were true.
🌿 I could tell when I was doing a pose incorrectly, thanks to clear guidance on where I should feel the stretch.
🌿 I could follow the sessions just fine and even tweak poses based on my body’s flexibility and strength—without hurting myself at all.
🌿 Starting my day with a screen wasn’t as bad as I thought. No headaches, no ruined mornings.
Now, as I complete my intermediate course and step into the advanced level (still online!), I realize how much this belief held me back.
So, I’m running a little experiment. I’m going to observe some of my long-held beliefs and challenge myself to take small actions in the opposite direction. Then? I’ll reflect.
❓ Do I still want to hold onto this belief?
❓ Or is it holding me too tightly?
This idea of treating life as an experiment comes from Anne-Laure Le Cunff, who has just released her book, Tiny Experiments. I can’t wait to read it as soon as it’s available in India!
